The final line of the inscription has been damaged to a point where the descriptive term of the association is gone. Some scholars have restored the lacuna as eranistai ( cf. Wescher, van Gelder). Others have restored it as koinon, which would be consistent with the rest of the inscription (Foucart, Hiller). The name of the association has also been a point of contention. The interpretations mostly see Apollon Stratagios as a cult, yet another interpretation has seen it as a personal name. Either interpretation would be the first of its kind on Rhodes or elsewhere (Morelli, Carratelli, List of Greek Personal Names). |
